You love your swimming pool and enjoy making memories with your family and friends. You don’t, however, want your family and friends to have memories of a terrible rash (or worse) caused by the improper levels of chemicals in your pool, right? Swimming pool chemicals help to keep you and your pool clean.
The first goal of swimming pool chemicals is to maintain a healthy water balance. This is done through monitoring pH levels, alkalinity levels and calcium hardness levels. The pH levels should range from 7.4 to 7.6. The alkalinity levels should range from 100 ppm to 150 ppm. The calcium hardness levels should range from 175 ppm to 300 ppm. The swimming pool chemicals used to maintain water balance are a pH increaser, a pH reducer (which is hydrochloric acid), and an alkalinity increaser.
The next goal of swimming pool chemicals is to ensure your pool is sanitized, and sanitization is made possible through the use of chlorine. Chlorine levels should be kept between 1 ppm to 3 ppm. You have the chlorine options of chlorine tablets, chlorine granular or powered chlorine, and salt chlorine generator (which turns table salt into chlorine).
If you have specific questions on swimming pool chemicals, we highly recommend working with your local professional to educate yourself and ensure the safety of you and your family.
