your swimming pool will need a few pool services

As the weather starts to warm up, it’s only natural to be excited about swimming in your pool again. However, just because the water is finally warm enough to be comfortable doesn’t mean that your pool is ready for swimmers just yet. After months of disuse, your swimming pool will need a few pool services to get it ready for recreation. In this article, we will tell you all about what pool services you will need to successfully open your pool this spring.

  • Remove Pool Cover- If you have a pool cover, you will first need to clear it of any debris and drain off excess water before removing it. Then, allow the cover to dry and sprinkle it with talcum powder to prevent mildew before storing it in a cool, dry place.
  • Reconnect Pool Equipment & Remove Winter Plugs- Closing your pool for the winter typically includes disconnecting pool equipment such as the pumps and filter to prevent damage during a freeze. When opening your pool for the spring, one of the key pool services to perform is reconnecting these components. If you used winterizing plugs, now is also the time to replace them with your normal drain plugs. Then turn on your pool system to start the water circulating. You can perform these tasks yourself, or you can call our team at Cayman Pool & Spa for help getting your pool ready for the coming summer.
  • Test Pool Chemistry- Once your circulation system has been running for several hours, the next step is to test your pool’s chemistry. You can use a home test kit to check your pools pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels. Ideal results for these chemicals should be:
    • pH: 7.4 to 7.6
    • Total Alkalinity: 80 to 120 ppm
    • Chlorine: 2.0 to 4.0 ppm

If your results fall outside of this range, your pool is not yet safe to swim in. You can consult with our team on how to get your pool chemistry back into a safe state, or you can even have one of our expert technicians provide these pool services for you. If you have any questions about what to do to open your pool this spring, don’t hesitate to call us at Cayman Pool & Spa.
