Spending time in your pool is a great way to reduce stress, exercise, and spend time with family or friends. It can be frustrating that occasionally your dip into the pool has to be delayed in order to get the pool chemicals balanced. Why does it matter? There are several reasons your pool needs properly balanced chemicals before you get in.

How Properly Balanced Pool Chemicals Protect You and Your Pool

  • Pathogens – Without the chemicals, your pool is relying only on the filter to stay clean. Filters are great for catching debris, but they can’t kill the bacteria and pathogens that enter your pool. Pool chemicals, like chlorinated compounds or bromine compounds for your hot tub, work as a disinfecting agent against these bacteria to keep your water safe and clean for everyone. They also keep the water looking clear and fresh, creating that enticing feeling that makes us want to jump in whenever we see a beautifully clean pool.
  • Irritations – If your chemicals are not balanced properly, it can be troublesome. When the pool chemicals are too strong, they can cause irritation to the eyes and skin.
  • Pool damage – Improper balance of chemicals can also cause damage to various parts of your pool. If the pH level is too low it means the water is to acidic, which can cause corrosion, pool stains, and rapid evaporation of chlorine. If the pH balance is too high, that means the chlorine is too weak. This allows algae to grow on the pool walls or crystalline deposits on your pool’s pipes.
